A computer virus can easily destroy an entire computer's contents.  They can spread very quickly and often go undetected until it is too late.  The best way to keep a computer virus free is to prevent the virus from ever infecting the computer in the first place.

I have had many computers over the years.  A couple years ago, I got a nasty virus on my computer.  At first, it just seemed like my computer was running a bit slow and I did not really think too much of it.  Then I was having trouble opening up programs that previously had run perfectly.  They would often just hang and never fully load.  Then my computer started randomly rebooting itself.  At this point, I began to realize that my computer was no longer virus free.  I backed up all of my important data and completely reinstalled the entire operating system.  After that, I installed antivirus software so that I could prevent that from ever happening again.

A virus can cause you to lose important data, so it is extremely important to keep your computer virus free!
