Could Firewall Software Protect from Identity Thieves? |

A couple months ago, when a friend was visiting from out of state he got a call from his bank. They asked him if he had made any recent purchases at a Florida Wal-Mart. Being we were on the other side of the country, his heart dropped while saying, “No.” The bank went on to say fraudulent charges amounting to something like 1,100 dollars have been charged to his credit card at the department store and a fast food restaurant. Long story short everything was handled but we got to wondering where his credit card info could have been stolen.
He was convinced it was from one of the many places he makes online purchases. Many times he buys from people in classifieds or small unranked businesses who are giving rock bottom pricing for vehicle parts or electronics. He has antivirus software but did say his firewall software was out of date. Could this have been the loophole identity thieves exploited? Not sure but I do know he bought firewall software right after smoothing everything out and has been safe since. What kind of scum do you have to be to steal someone else’s banking info. I never take a chance with this kind of stuff and keep my firewall antivirus software up to date.
