I do what it takes to keep my personal laptop computer virus free.  I have a good reputable antivirus software, I never download things that I'm unsure of and I never ever open emails from people I do not know.  It's a scary place online sometimes, but as long as I know the basic things to do in order to keep my laptop virus free, it's less scary.  I love my antivirus protection, and I scan it constantly to be sure everything is in order.  I don't download anything that I'm not sure who it comes from or what it is, including attachments on emails.  Forwarded emails can be dangerous and loaded with viruses and worms, so I never open forwarded messages even from people I know, to keep my computer virus free.  Because a forwarded message is usually forwarded along many times and originated from someone I don't know, I stay away from all forwarded messages.  I like being virus free and I want to stay that way.  It can be very expensive to get virus free again after a virus has attacked a computer.
