My husband and I both work from home and are on our computers a lot. My husband is our family's IT guy. In other words, he knows much more about how computers work than anyone else in the family. He is quite adamant that we keep our computers virus free. Viruses can do a lot of damage. There are viruses that can do everything from causing problems with our computers to stealing all the data on our computers. Our main computer was hit a few years ago. It took my husband hours to get it virus free again. If we had not backed up everything, we would have lost many important files. As it was he lost a lot of time. Since then he stays up to date on everything that can be used to keep our computers and laptops virus free.
When his brother bought a notebook for his oldest daughter he called my husband to find out what else he should get her. My husband suggested a personal firewall. It just plugs into the notebook, and will help keep it virus free. It is kind of cool the advances that have been made to keep computers virus free.
